This course aims to train healthcare workers to manage primary healthcare  (PHC) programs and facilities.  The student is introduced to the principles of PHC. This is followed by an overview of management principles, including planning, implementation and evaluation. Finally, in an integrated approach drawing upon skills learned in all lessons, the student is guided in the PHC process – How to enter a community, observe its health parameters, and plan, implement and evaluate a PHC program.

This is followed by an overview of management principles, including planning, implementation and evaluation. Finally, in an integrated approach drawing upon skills learned in all lessons, the student is guided in the PHC process – How to enter a community, observe its health parameters, and plan, implement and evaluate a PHC program.

The course uses a World Health Organization (WHO) endorsed text, especially designed for managers in developing countries.  Illustrative examples from Egypt and the Middle East region are used to teach hands-on management skills, based on the “management by objectives” system. The emphasis through out is on working with people and how to cope with practical problems.
